Hate Crew Deathroll

I've been listening to a Children of Bodom song called "Hate Crew Deathroll". Endlessly. It's almost a throwback to the thrash metal I grew up on, but with more hardcore/deathmetal style vocals (think Phil Anselmo with a slightly higher growl) and keyboards to give it a melodic bent. (I don't know what it is about Euopean metal bands and keyboards). Plus, double guitars for a Priest-y effect. Even though I hate to describe bands or music in this way (e.g., Metallica on steroids, Pete Yorn meets the Breeders on acid while channeling The Carpenters...), I can think of no other way to describe it. To paraphrase the popular quote, writing about music is like dancing about architecture. Anway, Hate Crew Deathroll rocks in a fist-pumping kind of way, and I like it.

Leave it to Brian Welsch (an old college buddy of mine) to remind us why the 80s were so friggin' awesome.

Back in action?

Two years since my last post. Not too shabby. Am I back for good? Who knows!
